Tulum and Snorkeling
About 60 miles south of Cancun is one of the most photographed archaeological sites in the world.  Tulum was the major port of the Mayans, and is placed at the edge of a tropical jungle on a bay, high above beautiful sandy beaches, and clear turquoise waters.  From the you will be able to see how the Mayans guided ships to this port through a narrow passage between the coral reefs.   The terraced
ruins of this city are in excellent condition, and you’ll enjoy hearing more about Tulum from your bilingual tour guide.  You can snorkel at Akumal or bargain shop at booths next to the site.  Another alternative is to spend a half day at Tulum and the other half at Xpu-Ha for lunch and snorkeling.  Departs 7:30 am and returns at 6pm.
You’ll have a delightful boat trip and day on this tour to “The Island of Women” which was once a sacred place for the Mayans and is now a special little island that takes you far away from the bustle of Cancun for a fun-filled, relaxing day. You can eat and lounge under the palm trees or see the nurse sharks (they’re confined) at a private beach club with a great buffet and drinks.  At the club, lockers, kayacks and floating air mattresses are provided. If you prefer you can snorkel (equipment provided) in calm waters among beautiful coral reefs at one end of the four-mile island before your lunch.  After lunch, the boat takes you to the harbor of the tiny town to do some shopping.  Here is old Mexico, where only a few cars are seen and most people who drive at all use golf carts.  On the way back to the marina in Cancun, the boys of the boat crew will put on a show for you, complete with music and costumes, that will have you laughing all the way home.  Departs 8am and returns at 3pm.

Isla de Mujeres
Chichen Itza - Day or Night

Chichen Itza is one of the most famous archaeological sites in the world and was the capital
of the Mayan Civilization.  Located about 125 miles from Cancun, it was the most important
and advanced ceremonial center and therefore, has one of the largest temples.  The Castle is a 70 foot high pyramid that most people want to climb so they can see for miles over the
tropical jungle.  These ruins are well preserved and many archaeologists visit and study here. You can take a day tour with your bilingual guide and enjoy a buffet luncheon or you can go on a later air conditioned bus to see the spectacular light and sound show that accompanies the historical narration.  Day trip departs at 7:30 am and returns at 6pm.  Night trip departs at 10:30 am and returns at 11pm.

Coba
The Mayan civilization had an extensive system of stone highways that connected their cities, and these are still being discovered and restored.  One stone highway leads to one of the oldest cities in the Mayan peninsula, Coba, which is set in the lush jungle among five lagoons and features the highest temple pyramid in the Yucatan.  Be sure you have your camera.  The scenery and sense of history is incredible.  Again you will travel on an air conditioned bus with a bilingual tour guide, and have lunch.  Departs at 7:30 am and returns at 6pm.
Ek-Balam/Valladolid
The colonial city of Valladolid was founded in the Yucatan jungle on the site of the site of Ek-Balam, meaning  the “City of the Black Jaguar”.  This city is full of attractive and interesting architecture.  You will have camera and shopping opportunities, eat lunch and return home in your air-conditioned bus with the bilingual tour guide.  Departs 7:30am and returns 6pm.

OTHER TOURS

Alternative tours are sometimes offered as well, so watch this web site for updates.  For example, one of the tours commonly offered is the Jungle Speed Boat Tour.   On this tour each couple will get a personal speed boat and take off for a trip behind the lead boat on the tributaries among the mangroves.  Then the boats head out to into the Caribbean to a nearby spot chosen for good snorkeling.  Afterwards it’s a fast trip back to Cancun and the marina.

Other tours commonly available at the resort desks but not usually included free in these packages are Xcaret  (a reproduction of authentic Mayan city with parks, lagoons, gardens and snorkeling in an underground river), Swim with dolphins,  Bull fights, Horseback riding, Lobster Dinner Cruise and Deep sea fishing.  You can also go to the island of Cozumel to dive, snorkel or shop by taking the ferry from Playa Carmen.
